Professional secrecy is a basic principle for Afschrift Law Firm’s lawyers when exercising their occupation. This secrecy is sacred and inviolable. In any circumstances, our specialists shall never expose confidentialities collected during their mission.

For Afschrift Law Firm, confidentiality must be absolute. Indeed, it is based on professional secrecy which is sacred and inviolable. We apply rigorously the rules regarding the attitude to adopt by an adviser, when he is confronted to conflict of interests likely to question the respect of his professional secrecy, by simply refusing any conflict of interests.

A 2004 Belgian law allows hypotheses, which should be exceptional, by which lawyers are forced to notify the authority of signs of laundering, thus infringing the professional secrecy. This law is subjected to recourses, that we assist, but whatever the result may be, the Firm’s point of view is never to denounce our client in any circumstances.

In order to reconcile decision in principle that is essential to carry out the efficient defence of our clients, and in the due respect of the law, the Firm has decided:
- To reject any mission involving any complicity or assistance in an operation of laundering assets, but without denouncing it.
- To reject any mission, in any matters concerned by the laundering law, without having carried out an evaluation on the client’s legal situation, which allows to insist upon professional secrecy.
- And to lend assistance when this evaluation leads to the conclusion that there have not been any laundering.
